2007 'there is no war in my drobe'
Ihave always been fascinated by wedding gowns and ball gowns but unfortunately there is very little opportunity left these days to wear them. so in my typical fashion -If I can't wear them I might as well paint them instead- . first off, I started painting beautiful dresses on beautiful women but very soon the dresses took on their own life and escaped the body and went on a journey without the wearer. perhaps my 10th wedding anniversary had something to do with it and the fact that my wedding dress would not fit me any longer? I am not sure - perhaps it was more a way of setting my wedding dress free so I could go on without it's restriction? win-win situation really! I can grow in spirit and body and the dress can grow it's spirit without me splitting its sides.
'there is no war in my drobe' was my debut show in auckland and was my first true 'body of work' where I concentrated on one theme alone. the irony was that my first body of work had no body at all ! should I be worried?
I hope you enjoy the garments of my peacedrobe as much as I enjoyed painting them.
there is no war in my drobe, only garments of hope!
